4 Choirs Concert
On the 14th of March we hosted our annual 4 Choirs Concert. This concert showcases the best of the university's choral talent.
We were honored to invite the Jacaranda Children's Choir, the Onderstepoort Community Choir as well as the UP Youth Choir on stage with us! These choirs truly enthralled the audience with proudly South African sounds. It was an evening filled with friendship, community and excellence.
We hope to do so again next year!
The weekend of 28 February to 01 March we held our annual rehearsal camp. What a weekend!
We camped at the exquisite Heronbridge Retreat where we were fed like kings! We rehearsed for over 13 hours, but we were blessed with cool rain that made the weekend fly by. The committee treated us to a hilarious skit on Friday evening, as well as an early morning yoga session on Saturday. We also did a little bit of team building and welcomed our new members on Saturday eveing.
All in all, it was an extremely successful camp and we are excited to strut our stuff at the World Choir Games.
Thank you, especially, to our new choir manager, Helena Vorster, who made arranging the camp a breeze.
Also, thank you to Dr B for making us the extraordinary choristers we know we can be!
A Swedish Affair
On the 27th of February we hosted a fantastic concert alongside the Kungsholmens Musikgymnasium from Sweden. Their crisp Scandinavian voices left the crowd in awe.
The choir visited us in 2018 with Bengt Ollén as conducter who has since left the reins to Sofia Ågren. The concert was a truly unique way to introduce the new year and has inspired us all to strive for excellence when making music. Both choirs participated in a mass event wherein we sang the 3 Sacred Hymns by Alfred Schnittke and Indodana, arranged by Michael Barrett and Ralf Schmitt, and it was a wonderous occassion of harmony and friendship.
We wish the Gymnasium nothing but the best for 2020 and may this tradition continue again in the future.
It was a privillege to begin our year with you!
2020: A bright new year
2020 has arrived and this new decade brings many exciting opportunities and challenges along with it!
Camerata is kicking the year off with a wonderful concert and will be singing alongside the Kugnsholmens Gymnasium from Stockholm. The Gymnasium vistited us in 2018 with world-renowned Bengt Ollén as conductor, however, as of 2020 the esteemed Sofia Ågren will be taking the reins. Experiencing a performance from these talented young people is something not to be missed. The concert will take place on the 27th of February and tickets are available at www.tixsa.co.za.
We are pleased to announce that we will be partaking in the World Choir Games hosted in Antwerp and Ghent in Belgium this year. It is a wonderful way for us to see the world, sing in beautiful locations and meet extraordinary choirs from across the globe. We will be reuniting with our lovely friends, the Barnsley Youth Choir, as we are hosted by them for the first leg of our tour. In Barnsley, the two choirs will sing togther and rekindle friendships before the competition later in July.
The TUKS Camerata is also releasing our fifth album - Of Magic and Mystery - under direction of Dr Barrett before we leave on tour. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for the release!
Be sure to stay in touch on our social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter) as many updates and fun annecdotes will keep you entertained throughout the year.
We wish you all a prosperous 2020 and cannot wait to share the journey with you all!
